Khi ấy, Phêrô quay lại, thấy môn đệ Chúa Giêsu yêu mến theo sau, cũng là người nằm sát ngực Chúa trong bữa ăn tối và hỏi "Thưa Thầy, ai là người sẽ nộp Thầy?"
In jener Zeit, Petrus wandte sich um und sah, wie der Jünger, den Jesus liebte, diesem folgte. Es war der Jünger, der sich bei jenem Mahl an die Brust Jesu gelehnt und ihn gefragt hatte: Herr, wer ist es, der dich verraten wird?
Then Peter, turning round, saw the disciple who was dear to Jesus coming after them--the disciple who was resting on his breast at the last meal, and said, Lord, who is it who will be false to you?

Vậy khi thấy môn đệ đó, Phêrô hỏi Chúa Giêsu rằng: "Còn người này thì sao?"
Als Petrus diesen Jünger sah, fragte er Jesus: Herr, was wird denn mit ihm?
Seeing him, Peter said to Jesus, What about this man?

Chúa Giêsu đáp: "Nếu Thầy muốn nó cứ ở lại mãi cho tới khi Thầy đến thì việc gì đến con? Phần con, cứ theo Thầy".
Jesus antwortete ihm: Wenn ich will, dass er bis zu meinem Kommen bleibt, was geht das dich an? Du aber folge mir nach!
Jesus said to him, If it is my desire for him to be here till I come back, what is that to you? come yourself after me.

Vì thế, có tiếng đồn trong anh em là môn đệ này sẽ không chết. Nhưng Chúa Giêsu không nói với Phêrô: "Nó sẽ không chết", mà Người chỉ nói: "Nếu Thầy muốn nó cứ ở lại mãi cho tới khi Thầy đến thì việc gì đến con".
Da verbreitete sich unter den Brüdern die Meinung: Jener Jünger stirbt nicht. Doch Jesus hatte zu Petrus nicht gesagt: Er stirbt nicht, sondern: Wenn ich will, dass er bis zu meinem Kommen bleibt, was geht das dich an?
So this saying went about among the brothers that this disciple would not undergo death: Jesus, however, did not say that he would not undergo death, but, If it is my desire for him to be here till I come back, what is that to you?

Chính môn đệ này làm chứng về những việc đó và đã viết ra, và chúng tôi biết lời chứng của người ấy xác thật.
Dieser Jünger ist es, der all das bezeugt und der es aufgeschrieben hat; und wir wissen, dass sein Zeugnis wahr ist.
This is the disciple who gives witness about these things and who put them in writing: and we have knowledge that his witness is true.

Còn nhiều việc khác Chúa Giêsu đã làm, nếu chép lại từng việc một thì tôi thiết tưởng cả thế giới cũng không thể chứa hết các sách viết ra.
Es gibt aber noch vieles andere, was Jesus getan hat. Wenn man alles aufschreiben wollte, so könnte, wie ich glaube, die ganze Welt die Bücher nicht fassen, die man schreiben müsste.
And Jesus did such a number of other things that, if every one was recorded, it is my opinion that even the world itself is not great enough for the books there would be.
