Khi ấy, có một người thông luật đúng dậy hỏi thử Chúa Giêsu rằng: “Thưa Thầy, tôi phải làm gì để được sự sống đời đời?”
Da stand ein Gesetzeslehrer auf, und um Jesus auf die Probe zu stellen, fragte er ihn: Meister, was muss ich tun, um das ewige Leben zu gewinnen?
And a certain teacher of the law got up and put him to the test, saying, Master, what have I to do so that I may have eternal life?

Người nói với ông: “Trong Lề luật đã chép như thế nào? Ông đọc thấy gì trong đó?”
Jesus sagte zu ihm: Was steht im Gesetz? Was liest du dort?
And he said to him, What does the law say, in your reading of it?

Ông trả lời: “Ngươi hãy yêu mến Chúa là Thiên Chúa ngươi hết lòng, hết linh hồn, hết sức và hết trí khôn ngươi, và hãy thương mến anh em như chính mình”.
Er antwortete: Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, lieben mit ganzem Herzen und ganzer Seele, mit all deiner Kraft und all deinen Gedanken, und: Deinen Nächsten sollst du lieben wie dich selbst.
And he, answering, said, Have love for the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and for your neighbour as for yourself.

Chúa Giêsu nói: “Ông trả lời đúng, hãy làm như vậy và ông sẽ được sống”.
Jesus sagte zu ihm: Du hast richtig geantwortet. Handle danach, und du wirst leben.
And he said, You have given the right answer: do this and you will have life.

Nhưng người đó muốn bào chữa mình, nên thưa cùng Chúa Giêsu rằng: “Nhưng ai là anh em của tôi?”
Der Gesetzeslehrer wollte seine Frage rechtfertigen und sagte zu Jesus: Und wer ist mein Nächster?
But he, desiring to put himself in the right, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

Chúa Giêsu nói tiếp: “Một người đi từ Giêrusalem xuống Giêricô, và rơi vào tay bọn cướp; chúng bóc lột người ấy, đánh nhừ tử rồi bỏ đi, để người ấy nửa sống nửa chết.
Darauf antwortete ihm Jesus: Ein Mann ging von Jerusalem nach Jericho hinab und wurde von Räubern überfallen. Sie plünderten ihn aus und schlugen ihn nieder; dann gingen sie weg und ließen ihn halbtot liegen.
And Jesus, answering him, said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he got into the hands of thieves, who took his clothing and gave him cruel blows, and when they went away, he was half dead.

Tình cờ một tư tế cũng đi qua đường đó, trông thấy nạn nhân, ông liền đi qua.
Zufällig kam ein Priester denselben Weg herab; er sah ihn und ging weiter.
And by chance a certain priest was going down that way: and when he saw him, he went by on the other side.

Cũng vậy, một trợ tế khi đi đến đó, trông thấy nạn nhân, cũng đi qua.
Auch ein Levit kam zu der Stelle; er sah ihn und ging weiter.
And in the same way, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, went by on the other side.

Nhưng một người xứ Samaria đi đường đến gần người ấy, trông thấy và động lòng thương.
Dann kam ein Mann aus Samarien, der auf der Reise war. Als er ihn sah, hatte er Mitleid,
But a certain man of Samaria, journeying that way, came where he was, and when he saw him, he was moved with pity for him,

Người đó lại gần, băng bó những vết thương, xức dầu và rượu, rồi đỡ nạn nhân lên lừa của mình, đưa về quán trọ săn sóc.
ging zu ihm hin, goss Öl und Wein auf seine Wunden und verband sie. Dann hob er ihn auf sein Reittier, brachte ihn zu einer Herberge und sorgte für ihn.
And came to him and put clean linen round his wounds, with oil and wine; and he put him on his beast and took him to a house and took care of him.

Hôm sau, lấy ra hai quan tiền, ông trao cho ông chủ quán mà bảo rằng: “Ông hãy săn sóc người ấy, và ngoài ra còn tốn phí hơn bao nhiêu, khi trở về tôi sẽ trả lại ông”.
Am andern Morgen holte er zwei Denare hervor, gab sie dem Wirt und sagte: Sorge für ihn, und wenn du mehr für ihn brauchst, werde ich es dir bezahlen, wenn ich wiederkomme.
And the day after he took two pennies and gave them to the owner of the house and said, Take care of him; and if this money is not enough, when I come again I will give you whatever more is needed.

Was meinst du: Wer von diesen dreien hat sich als der Nächste dessen erwiesen, der von den Räubern überfallen wurde?
Which of these three men, in your opinion, was neighbour to the man who came into the hands of thieves?

Người thông luật trả lời: “Kẻ đã tỏ lòng thương xót với người ấy”. Và Chúa Giêsu bảo ông: “Ông cũng hãy đi và làm như vậy”.
Der Gesetzeslehrer antwortete: Der, der barmherzig an ihm gehandelt hat. Da sagte Jesus zu ihm: Dann geh und handle genauso!
And he said, The one who had mercy on him. And Jesus said, Go and do the same.
