“Anh em đã nghe Luật dạy rằng: Mắt đền mắt, răng đền răng.

Ihr habt gehört, dass gesagt ist : »Auge um Auge, Zahn um Zahn.«

Còn Thầy, Thầy bảo anh em: đừng chống cự người ác, trái lại, nếu bị ai vả má bên phải, thì hãy giơ cả má bên trái ra nữa.

Ich aber sage euch, dass ihr nicht widerstreben sollt dem Bösen, sondern: Wenn dich jemand auf deine rechte Backe schlägt, dem biete die andere auch dar.

But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.

Und wenn jemand mit dir rechten will und dir deinen Rock nehmen, dem lass auch den Mantel.

And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.

Ai xin, thì hãy cho; ai muốn vay mượn, thì đừng ngoảnh mặt đi.

Wer dich bittet, dem gib, und wer von dir borgen will, den weise nicht ab!

Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

Ich aber sage euch: Liebt eure Feinde und bittet für die, die euch verfolgen,

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

 

Như vậy, anh em mới được trở nên con cái của Cha anh em, Đấng ngự trên trời, vì Người cho mặt trời của Người mọc lên soi sáng kẻ xấu cũng như người tốt, và cho mưa xuống trên người công chính cũng như kẻ bất chính.

auf dass ihr Kinder seid eures Vaters im Himmel. Denn er lässt seine Sonne aufgehen über Böse und Gute und lässt regnen über Gerechte und Ungerechte.

that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

 

Vì nếu anh em yêu thương kẻ yêu thương mình, thì anh em nào có công chi? Ngay cả những người thu thuế cũng chẳng làm như thế sao?

Denn wenn ihr liebt, die euch lieben, was werdet ihr für Lohn haben? Tun nicht dasselbe auch die Zöllner?

If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?

 

Nếu anh em chỉ chào hỏi anh em mình thôi, thì anh em có làm gì lạ thường đâu? Ngay cả người ngoại cũng chẳng làm như thế sao?

Und wenn ihr nur zu euren Brüdern freundlich seid, was tut ihr Besonderes? Tun nicht dasselbe auch die Heiden?

And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?

 

Vậy anh em hãy nên hoàn thiện, như Cha anh em trên trời là Đấng hoàn thiện.

Darum sollt ihr vollkommen sein, wie euer himmlischer Vater vollkommen ist.

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
