Khi nghe tin ông Gioan bị xử trảm , Đức Giê-su lánh khỏi nơi đó, đi thuyền đến một chỗ hoang vắng riêng biệt. Nghe biết vậy, đông đảo dân chúng từ các thành đi bộ mà theo Người.
In jener Zeit, als Jesus hörte, dass Johannes enthauptet worden war, fuhr er mit dem Boot in eine einsame Gegend, um allein zu sein. Aber die Leute in den Städten hörten davon und gingen ihm zu Fuß nach.
Now when it came to the ears of Jesus, he went away from there in a boat, to a waste place by himself: and the people hearing of it, went after him on foot from the towns.

Ra khỏi thuyền, Đức Giê-su trông thấy một đoàn người đông đảo thì chạnh lòng thương, và chữa lành các bệnh nhân của họ.
Als er ausstieg und die vielen Menschen sah, hatte er Mitleid mit ihnen und heilte die Kranken, die bei ihnen waren.
And he came out and saw a great number of people and he had pity on them, and made well those of them who were ill.

Chiều đến, các môn đệ lại gần thưa với Người: "Nơi đây hoang vắng, và đã muộn rồi, vậy xin Thầy cho dân chúng về, để họ vào các làng mạc mua lấy thức ăn."
Als es Abend wurde, kamen die Jünger zu ihm und sagten: Der Ort ist abgelegen, und es ist schon spät geworden. Schick doch die Menschen weg, damit sie in die Dörfer gehen und sich etwas zu essen kaufen können.
And when evening had come, the disciples came to him, saying, This place is waste land, and the time is now past; send the people away so that they may go into the towns and get themselves food.

Đức Giê-su bảo: "Họ không cần phải đi đâu cả, chính anh em hãy cho họ ăn."
Jesus antwortete: Sie brauchen nicht wegzugehen. Gebt ihr ihnen zu essen!
But Jesus said to them, There is no need for them to go away; give them food yourselves.

Các ông đáp: "Ở đây, chúng con chỉ có vỏn vẹn năm cái bánh và hai con cá! "
Sie sagten zu ihm: Wir haben nur fünf Brote und zwei Fische bei uns.
And they say to him, We have here but five cakes of bread and two fishes.

Người bảo: "Đem lại đây cho Thầy! "
Darauf antwortete er: Bringt sie her!
And he said, Give them to me.

Rồi sau đó, Người truyền cho dân chúng ngồi xuống cỏ. Người cầm lấy năm cái bánh và hai con cá, ngước mắt lên trời, dâng lời chúc tụng, và bẻ ra, trao cho môn đệ. Và môn đệ trao cho dân chúng.
Dann ordnete er an, die Leute sollten sich ins Gras setzen. Und er nahm die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische, blickte zum Himmel auf, sprach den Lobpreis, brach die Brote und gab sie den Jüngern; die Jünger aber gaben sie den Leuten,
And he gave orders for the people to be seated on the grass; and he took the five cakes of bread and the two fishes and, looking up to heaven, he said words of blessing, and made division of the food, and gave it to the disciples, and the disciples gave it to the people.

Ai nấy đều ăn và được no nê. Những mẩu bánh còn thừa, người ta thu lại được mười hai giỏ đầy.
und alle aßen und wurden satt. Als die Jünger die übriggebliebenen Brotstücke einsammelten, wurden zwölf Körbe voll.
And they all took of the food and had enough: and they took up twelve baskets full of broken bits which were not used.

Số người ăn có tới năm ngàn đàn ông, không kể đàn bà và trẻ con.
Es waren etwa fünftausend Männer, die an dem Mahl teilnahmen, dazu noch Frauen und Kinder.
And those who had food were about five thousand men, in addition to women and children.
